Soup, Soup

As promised, here is the assignment I had for my Comm 301 class (Writing for the Mass Audience). I waited until we talked about it in class before posting it, since I wanted to get feedback from my instructor/classmates. The feedback was good, and I was the only one in class that focused on writing about something other than the actual edible kind of soup throughout the whole assignment.

Instructions: Write about SOUP. You have 10 minutes. Start typing below. When you are done, print out and turn in your writing.

Whenever I hear the word “soup” my mind automatically goes to the British comedy duo of Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt, who were the two main characters of the 2004 show called The Mighty Boosh.

Vince Noir (Fielding) is the king of the mods and Howard Moon (Barrett), is a genius who also happens to be a novelist, poet, wrestler, boxer and jazz musician, but their “real jobs” at at the Zooniverse and they generally find themselves in adventures and mishaps that often involve quarky songs.

During one of their adventures the two men find themselves buried in sand up to their chins, and they begin to sing this song;
Soup Soup/Tasty Soup Soup/Spicy carrot and coriander/Chili chowder/Crouton, Crouton/Crunch friends in a liquid broth/I am gespatchio, oh!/I am a summer soup Mmmm!/Miso, Miso/Fighting in the dojo/Miso, Miso/Oriental Prince in the land of soup!
It looks a bit odd when you just read the lyrics, but if you want to view the clip, you can find it on YouTube right here, and you can find the DVD sets on Amazon or other movie-buying websites.
