A Study of Color

Everybody knows that design tends to go through trends just as easily as fashion does. Some people like textures while others like vintage or mod colors.

COLOURlovers is a perfect website for anybody who works in any area that involves using colors.

For me, COLOURlovers is a God-send because there are times where I have a great idea for a computer wallpaper (or other piece of graphic art), but simply can't figure out what color I would like to use.

They have categories like "Web site colors" and "magazine colors" in their trends area, as well as a forum for discussion. There are over 180,000 users, many who upload their creations. Other users are able to rank the palettes & patterns.

Soup, Soup

As promised, here is the assignment I had for my Comm 301 class (Writing for the Mass Audience). I waited until we talked about it in class before posting it, since I wanted to get feedback from my instructor/classmates. The feedback was good, and I was the only one in class that focused on writing about something other than the actual edible kind of soup throughout the whole assignment.

Instructions: Write about SOUP. You have 10 minutes. Start typing below. When you are done, print out and turn in your writing.

Whenever I hear the word “soup” my mind automatically goes to the British comedy duo of Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt, who were the two main characters of the 2004 show called The Mighty Boosh.

Vince Noir (Fielding) is the king of the mods and Howard Moon (Barrett), is a genius who also happens to be a novelist, poet, wrestler, boxer and jazz musician, but their “real jobs” at at the Zooniverse and they generally find themselves in adventures and mishaps that often involve quarky songs.

During one of their adventures the two men find themselves buried in sand up to their chins, and they begin to sing this song;
Soup Soup/Tasty Soup Soup/Spicy carrot and coriander/Chili chowder/Crouton, Crouton/Crunch friends in a liquid broth/I am gespatchio, oh!/I am a summer soup Mmmm!/Miso, Miso/Fighting in the dojo/Miso, Miso/Oriental Prince in the land of soup!
It looks a bit odd when you just read the lyrics, but if you want to view the clip, you can find it on YouTube right here, and you can find the DVD sets on Amazon or other movie-buying websites.

Long Time No See

My last semester of Wichita State University left me feeling worse than a chicken with it's head cut off. I could barely find time to sleep, let alone blog about anything important to me.

Already this semester is looking up. All of my core-curriculum classes are now out of the way, and I'm diving in to the classes that deal with my major (integrated marketing communications).

I figured that this semester, I'll post whatever writing assignments that strike my fancy, along with the details from the class as well as the writing assignment instructions. I have an awesome first-post that will be ready to go up by the end of next week.

Stay tuned for more,
Elle
